So posessive is the actress about them that given the chance, she won't let anyone else work with them.

But she was reticent on who her favourite Khan was. "This doesn't make sense to me. It is unfair," Katrina told reporters here when asked to pick her favourite Khan.

"If suppose if you will ask them to choose one of the actresses, even I will feel bad. Everyone is different. All three of them are icons and legends in their own way. I am fortunate enough to work with them. It's been great so far.

"If I had the chance, I would not allow anyone to work with them. But that is not possible as you cannot stop anyone from working with them," she added.

The 27-year-old was speaking at the unveiling of Nakshatra's new logo. Katrina is indeed at the peak of her career. She is working with Salman in 'Ek Tha Tiger', Shah Rukh in an untitled project directed by Yash Chopra and with Aamir in 'Dhoom 3'.

"With Salman, I am working for the third time and I had an amazing time. With Shah Rukh the shooting is going on and I had fun. It was good working with him," she said.

Katrina is excited at shooting an item song for her soon-to-be-released 'Ek Tha Tiger' and said: "I don't know what you call an item number. It is a very interesting song. I will shoot for it tomorrow (Tuesday)," Katrina said.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-12080903007292191062012-05-14T23:35:00.004-07:002012-05-14T23:35:40.891-07:00

Jaipur: A Rajasthan minister has hit out at Bollywood star Aamir Khan for sensationalising female foeticide cases in the state, saying the government was already working on the issue before the actor's campaign.

Minister of State for Health, Rajkumar Sharma said that it was not right on the part of Aamir to highlight Rajasthan as the only state where the cases of female foeticide are rampant. "There was an impression that the government has swung into action after Aamir Khan's campaign but to clarify, I would like to highlight that the government is already working for the same. Budget announcements to check foeticide are there and several other steps are being taken," Sharma told PTI.

"The government took up the issue much before Aamir Khan's programme. It is not because of him that the government is working against female foeticide." Sharma said that the actor needs to work on ground level to prove his commitment to the issue. "He (Aamir) himself has said that he is an entertainer and cannot work longer on one topic, that simply means what he is doing is for monetary gains. If he really wants to work on this issue then I welcome him to work here on ground," Sharma said.

Khan took up the issue in the first episode of his TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' aired on May 6 and also met Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to request him to form a fast track court to expedite cases related to the issue.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-67297498793339237312012-05-13T23:04:00.001-07:002012-05-13T23:04:24.679-07:00Filmmaker Mrinal Sen turns 90, says he has not yet retired

Kolkata: Far from calling it quits, legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen on his 90th birthday today said that he might just come up with another new film. "Everyday I feel like making a new film. Ideas pop up out of my head. Let's see when I can act on them," Sen, who along with Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak changed the profile of Indian cinema in the eyes of the world, said.

Starring actress Nandita Das, his last film 'Aamaar Bhuvan' (This, My Land) was released in 2002. "I haven't so far made any more films. But, to assure you, I do not think that I have retired," he told PTI in an interview here.

With his films full of direct political statement, social analysis and psychological drama, the Left-leaning director is regarded as a pioneer of the alternative cinema movement in India and is often compared with his contemporary Satyajit Ray. Besides bagging four National Film Awards as the best director for works like 'Khandhar' (1984) and 'Bhuvan Shome' (1969), he was also awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in filmmaking, in 2005.

Recently he got a call from a leading private bank offering him money to make films. "Money is not a problem for me. The bank said we can fund projects worth upwards of Rs 5 crore. I told them I can make six films with Rs 5 crore," Sen said.

When asked about his birthday party plans, the nonagenarian said he doesn't celebrate birthdays. "Birth or death, it is not my business to celebrate. My friends and relatives and others who think of me are there to celebrate if they will. Not me," Sen said.

One thing which seems to disturb him in his old age is the poor health of his film prints, many of which are regarded as classics today. "Most of them are in a pretty bad condition. All because of an unfriendly climate and, of course, for unhealthy storage," the maestro said. Under the monitoring of the National Film Archives of India in Pune, private labs in Mumbai are now working on digitalizing and restoring two of his films - 'Antareen' (The Confined) and 'Ek Din Pratidin' (And Quite Rolls the Dawn).

"There are plenty of films, not only mine but others also, which need restoration. Considering the expenses involved in the restoration, I had suggested them to consider only 15 films of mine for restoration," Sen said. In 2010 when his film 'Khandahar' (The Ruins) was invited for the Cannes festival, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had personally intervened to get the film print restored in time for the screening.

"I have now gathered that the central government had since then been going ahead with the restoration work for various other films including mine," the director said. Having started his career as a director with 'Raat Bhor' in 1951, he went on to make 28 feature films and four documentaries in languages varying from Bengali to Oriya, Hindi and Telugu.

Made during the seventies, his trilogy on Kolkata, 'Interview', 'Calcutta 71' and 'Padatik', is regarded as one of the most sensitive and realistic portrayal of the social, economic and political unrest of that period. The iconic director now lives with his wife Gita, a fine actress herself and who acted in many of her films including the Golden Bear winning 'Akaler Sandhane', at a flat in south Kolkata while his only son Kunal works in Chicago.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-21305814053630310482012-05-13T23:02:00.002-07:002012-05-13T23:02:40.618-07:00'Rowdy Rathore' is the perfect comeback | Akshay Kumar

Mumbai: 'Rowdy Rathore' will be Akshay Kumar's comeback film into the realm of action and he feels that this might be the perfect opportunity. "I think this is the perfect comeback. What is better than the guy who wanted such a good action film, is not directing 'Rowdy Rathore'. Prabhu has action and more action. His mind is full of action and he choreographs action," he said Saturday, referring to the film's director Prabhu Deva.

Both Akshay Kumar and his co-star Sonakshi Sinha said that they would love to ride auto-rickshaws on the streets of Mumbai.

At a promotional event, the stars were made to travel in a vehicle next to an auto rickshaw race organised by the team.

"I was asked to stand in the jeep. Whatever has been told to me I will do. When I was sitting in the jeep I said many times that give me also the auto rickshaw to ride.

Maybe the reason was that I don't even have a license to drive an auto. You have to follow the rules," Akshay Kumar told reporters.

The film is all set to release on June 1.

Talking about the stress 'Rowdy Rathore' has put on him, Akshay Kumar optimistically said: "Every actor is worried about his film. A little stress is always there. But if it doesn't work, the next film will come."

Dressed in a purple top and shocking pink jeans, Akshay looked more rowdy than ever.

"It's not only pink but yellow, red all are rowdy. When I got these clothes for the first time, I was shocked but then I got used to it. A lot of people like to wear such clothes. This is just a character and I would love to play it," he said.

Talking about his 'Dabangg' co-star, Akshay was full of praise for Sonakshi.

"Sonakshi is a very simple girl, she works and goes home. She comes on time and goes home. She is very professional. She has never bullied or played pranks on people," he added.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-90858428828522790152012-05-12T00:24:00.001-07:002012-05-12T00:24:21.489-07:00Telugu Review | 'Gabbar Singh' is average

Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Shruti Haasan, Abhimanyu Singh

Director: Harish Shankar

Dance, drama and action, an old school formula for a Masala entertainer you'd say, but it got the audience hooting and how! Gabbar Singh , the Telugu re-make of Salman Khan starrer runaway hit Dabangg, opened to full houses on its first day.

Pawan Kalyan, also popularly known as 'Power star', comes close to filling the big boots of Chulbul Pandey. Director Harish Shankar provides the perfect platform for Pawan Kalyan to dole out 'punch' dialogues and of course the pelvic thrusts in every song, enough to get the audience rooting for their hero .. or is it the 'villain'?

Gabbar Singh, is a cop, who ironically proclaims himself as Gabbar, after the immortal role of Sholay that he fancies. The director has stayed close to the original plot and screenplay but has gone a few extra miles to customize the humour.

Comic actors Brahmanandam and Ali bring their usual selves to the characters. While Brahmanandam is an EMI collector, who by the way, in a stroke of genius, is the one who gets to wear Ray-Ban on the collar behind; Ali is a constable lovingly named Samba, by who else?!

While abundant action sequences are on expected lines, including slow-mo flips and kicks, it's really the wit that's a pleasant surprise (and breather!). Be it the kabbadi sequence or goons made to play Antakshari by Gabbar Singh in his police station, the fact that the film included spoof snippets on Pawan Kalyan's earlier films & songs, is a refreshing change.

After a string of flops, Gabbar Singh might well be the magic potion for Pawan Kalyan's plummeting career. Will it work its magic for his co-star Shruti Haasan a la Sonakshi Sinha? Given the length and depth of her character, vis-a-vis the original, the answer is Maybe Not! For one, Gabbar Singh is a one-man show and Shruthi Hasan has barely anything more to do than look pretty. It's almost as if she cautioned the director, "Dancing se darr nahi lagta sahib, acting se lagta hai."

Abhimanyu Singh (previously also seen in RGV's Rakhta Charithra) comfortably essays the role of Cheddi Singh with copious amounts of eye-bulging and muscle flexing.

A little more strength to the screenplay and depth to characters apart from that of Gabbar Singh may have supported the film better. But then again, watching Pawan Kalyan ride on a horse (slow-mo) following a band of dacoits in a barren land, to the background score of music director Devi Sri Prasad (of Dhinka Chika fame), who cares about anything else?!

As one of his dialogues in the film goes , "Nenu Cheppina Okate, naa fans cheppina Okkate" (what my fans say is as good as me saying it)… and if truth comes close to that, then Gabbar Singh may have reasons to smile or even better, laugh his famous evil laugh!adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-53279211192705345832012-05-12T00:22:00.000-07:002012-05-12T00:22:04.513-07:00Oscar nod no boost in India | 'The Forest' director Ashvin Kumar

Mumbai: Winning accolades at international film festivals and being nominated at the Oscars didn't make it any easier for Ashvin Kumar to release his film in India.

The 39-year-old film-maker waited for six years to release his debut feature 'The Forest', and says being nominated for an Oscar (for his 2004 short film 'Little Terrorist') didn't help.

"It makes no difference. If it did, do you think I'd be running around arranging finances for my next film and trying to get this one released?" Kumar said.

'The Forest' has been ready since 2006, but the film-maker said its release was stuck for several reasons, including a fallout with a producer.

The film, about a couple on a jungle holiday which goes horribly wrong, opens in cinemas under the PVR banner on Friday.

"It's easier if you are backed by a big studio, that way you don't have to worry about the money and can concentrate on making the film, but that doesn't always happen," Kumar told Reuters.

'The Forest', starring Nandana Sen and Jaaved Jafferi, is the film-maker's way of bringing the sinister world of the forest into the urban moviegoer's life.

"A lot of urban dwellers aren't as exposed to the forest as we were as kids. And I want them to know that it's a beautiful place, but also a scary one, and you have to look after yourself there," Kumar said.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-84214987315064499662012-03-04T23:31:00.000-08:002012-03-04T23:31:24.241-08:00Kolkata Metro wants Vidya's push scene in 'Kahaani' scene withdrawn

Kolkata: Vidya Balan starrer 'Kahaani' has run into a controversy with the Kolkata Metro Railway authorities objecting to a scene in the upcoming film where the actress is shown as being pushed perilously before a speeding train.

Metro spokesperson Protyush Ghosh told PTI that the Metro authorities had asked producers of the film to remove the particular clip from their trailers as well as from the film, which releases next Friday.

"We had a meeting with the director recently where he told us that there is nothing objectionable in the film at all. He will submit us a video of the complete scene in a day or two after which we will take the final decision," he said.

The film's trailer shows a pregnant Vidya waiting on the platform to board a train at the Kalighat station. As soon as the train arrives, she is dangerously pushed onto the tracks by a man standing close to her.

A source close to the film said the shot was part of a dream sequence and had been shot using CGI (computer-generated imagery) technique.

The Metro authorities had allowed the film unit to shoot for four days last year at the busy Tollygunj and Kalighat stations, where the controversial scene was filmed.

Frequent suicides on tracks has been a major headache for the Kolkata Metro, which commenced operations from 1984, and there has been around 234 suicide attempts since then.

"We are opposed to the scene as we are very concerned about the rate of suicides on the Metro tracks. We know how people get ideas for committing suicide and for other criminal activities," Kolkata Metro's General Manager P B Murti said.

The Railway authorities wrote to the film's producer claiming that the scene would not only harm the image of the Metro but also leave a negative impact on the audience.

Producer-director Sujoy Ghosh brushed it off as a minor issue.

"I am a Bengali and I know the city like the back of my hand. The scene is not meant to remind people of suicides. Anyways if anybody has to commit suicide, he will not do it because of my film. As a filmmaker I need to show all sides of a city, including the darker aspects," he said.

Lead actress Vidya, too, isn't complaining.

"The Metro officials have been very supportive of us during shooting. We are really thankful to them," said 'The Dirty Picture' star hoping that the issue would be sorted out soon.

'Kahaani' has the 34-year-old actress play a pregnant woman who comes to Kolkata from London in search of her husband. With nothing to rely on except fragments from her memories about him, it is the story of a seven-months pregnant woman's relentless struggle in an unknown city.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-63725307912620130442012-03-04T23:29:00.000-08:002012-03-04T23:29:03.625-08:00Nathalia Kaur will star opposite Rana Daggubati in 'Department'

Mumbai: Director Ram Gopal Varma says that his new found discovery Nathalia Kaur will star opposite Rana Daggubati in his upcoming movie 'Department'.

Earlier, it was said that Indo-Brazilian girl will only do an item number for the movie. It was also said that the filmmaker recently got choreographer Ganesh Acharya to shoot the 'Dan Dan' number with her.

"The report of me signing Nathalia is absolute nonsense and most of what is written in that article is absolute crap. In the film I am doing with Nathalia she is starring opposite Rana Daggubati...whoever wrote should least check with me," he said.

In 'Department', Daggubati will be seen as a grungy policeman - a role that was earlier reserved for Abhishek Bachchan.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-90992981340431492712012-03-02T22:23:00.000-08:002012-03-02T22:23:20.453-08:00Never seen a beautiful woman than Nathalia | Ram Gopal Varma

New Delhi: Ram Gopal Varma admits he approached Indian Canadian star Sunny Leone for an item song in 'Department', but things didn't work out and the song went to Nathalia Kaur. The filmmaker is in awe of the Brazilian model of Indian descent.

"I never ever hid the fact that I am a devotee of a woman's beauty. But not only in my entire career, but never even ever since I have consciously come of a mental and a physical age to perceive and admire the beauty of a woman, have I seen a woman more beautiful than Nathalia," he said.

"Her beauty is truly electrifying and it just sparks out from every nook and curve of both her face and her body. Her face looks so classically beautiful and her body literally looks like the perfect embodiment of an ultimate female figure.

"This combined with her ability on cue to give any expression that is asked of her is what I think will happen in only once in a decade and in this decade I think Nathalia is that girl," he added.

Nathalia will shake a leg on item song 'Dan dan' in the film, which also stars Rana Daggubati and Sanjay Dutt.

Earlier Sunny was expected to do the song.

"We were trying for Sunny Leone but by God's grace it didn't work out or else we would have lost out on someone as divine as Nathalia and I thank God for that," Varma wrote on his Twitter page.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-33802646757807446032012-03-02T22:20:00.002-08:002012-03-02T22:20:36.155-08:00Paoli Dam's poster earns Rs 10 cr for 'Hate Story'

Mumbai: Looks like the 'shock value' of the bare back poster of Vikram Bhatt's forthcoming production 'Hate Story' is working. The film, which is said to be earlier struggling to get its territories sold, is now fetching a good price, thanks to the 'well-exposed' poster.

Well-placed trade sources reveal that the Vivek Agnihotri directed film featuring Nikhil Dwivedi and Bengali actress Paoli Dam has fetched over Rs 10 crore for all India theatrical rights. Incidentally the shooting for the erotic thriller penned by Bhatt is still under way and is scheduled to be wrapped up in another week.

"Our focus was to complete the film first. However, the first poster that was released, has generated so much hype that the theatrical rights for India were soon sold off for a price not exactly anticipated earlier," says our source.

Distributor Ajay Bagbai of Rajvi Entertainment Pvt Ltd has acquired the India theatrical rights for this Bhatt production. Needless to say, director Agnihotri is thrilled with the response to the poster and the consecutive deal.

"Within eight to 10 hours, we got 22 lakh views on one site alone.

Besides, it has generated a lot of curiosity in the interiors and small towns too," he enthuses, adding that producer Bhatt had faith in the concept. "Vikram has written the script. And even while discussing the poster, he came up with this idea."

Agnihotri concedes that he had not anticipated such a kind of response. He says, "This kind of a deal is like a certificate of approval for the product. So the responsibility to deliver is greater now."adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-73689931570439474762012-02-28T22:23:00.004-08:002012-02-28T22:23:46.983-08:00I'm unapologetic about being myself | Vidya Balan

Mumbai: Bollywood star Vidya Balan wants to improve her vocabulary, on the one hand, to express her feelings towards the success of 'The Dirty Picture'. On the other, she is looking forward to a break and says post that she will do some "dirty dancing".

After working non-stop for more than two years, she now wants to take a break.

"I am close to saying yes to a film which will not start for another three months. So I really think I need that break because for the past two-and-a-half-years I have been busy with my films. So now I do need that time off to soak everything in. Then I will probably do some dirty dancing," the 33-year-old talented actor told IANS.

An unofficial biopic of southern sex siren Silk Smitha, 'The Dirty Picture' saw Vidya shedding all inhibitions to get under the skin of the character and said: "I have become unapologetic about being myself. Probably others think that I don't breathe the same air (laughs). I just take that as a compliment, but I have a long way to go but yes god has been kind."

"I was hoping the film would do well, but I had no idea that the film would do so well. I feel blessed and I am looking for new words for blessed, humbled and overwhelmed."

Unwilling to get typecast or repeat same roles, Vidya will soon be seen stepping out of the sex icon image by playing a pregnant woman in director Sujoy Ghosh's 'Kahaani', a thriller that will show what all her character goes through when she flies down to Kolkata to find her missing husband.

"I can't do the same thing again and again. When I am getting variety, then why will I not take that advantage? This woman (in 'Kahaani') is a vulnerable woman who is searching for her husband, but she has not lost her sense of humour. She is a woman of today."

Vidya has been extremely choosy with scripts, but clarifies that it doesn't mean she is narrowing down her options.

"The proposition of success has been humongous, thankfully. But even after 'Paa', 'Ishqiya' and 'No One Killed Jessica', people said what next? Are your options narrowing down? I don't think about these things. If god has brought me so far, he will take me further.

"I am here to act. I am not saying I will do only solo heroine projects or like that. I want to do different genres of films," she said.

Ghosh was shouldering the burden of two flops - 'Aladin' and 'Home Delivery' - when he approached Vidya, but she was not sceptical about the director and took the plunge.

"When Balki came to me with 'Paa', I had a 'Kismat Konnection' and 'Heyy Babyy' behind me. And when Sujoy came to me, my films were doing well. But he is an intelligent man he is one of the most intelligent men I have met. Two of his films didn't work, but he has put things together this time around. I am hoping it will work out. But I think the intention is right," she said.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-68366655973397583532012-02-28T22:21:00.004-08:002012-02-28T22:21:55.286-08:00Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya all set to be a hit

Mumbai: After a dull last week, the new releases didn't register great numbers at the ticket windows either. The opening of both the latest films, Jodi Breakers and Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya were dull, say tradesmiths, adding that neither will make any profit from the theatrical run.

The Riteish Deshmukh-Genelia D'Souza rom-com opened with Rs 1.75 crore on Friday. And despite picking up on Saturday-Sunday to take the three-day total to Rs 7.5 crore, trade expert Komal Nahta wrote on his website, 'The overall figures were on the lower side.'

Fortunately, the producers, TIPS have sold the film to UTV, which in turn sold it to some of the territories. "So for them, TNLHG is not a losing proposition," reiterates Nahta.

In the same vein, veteran trade analyst Amod Mehra adds that the other distributors and sub-distributors who bought the subsequent rights, will not make money. Pegging the cost of Jodi Breakers at Rs 25 crore, including prints and advertising, and TNLHG at Rs 20 crore, Mehra feels the Madhavan-Bipasha Basu starrer will be the bigger loser at the box office.

"The reason being that the makers have neither sold the territories nor the satellite rights. So they stand to lose about Rs 10-12 crore on their total investment," he says, adding that the distributors and sub-distributors won't make money on TNLHG either.

A distributor on condition of anonymity points out that the movie didn't deliver what it promised to, and it wasn't all that it was being projected as. "To a major extent, the two films ate into each other's businesses. I think they suffered more due to their clash at the box office," says a distributor from Delhi.

He further added, "Maybe if the two films had released solo, they would have got some respectable numbers. Economically, both are making losses."

Though both the films registered their presence with promotions on satellite television, and print and outdoor advertising, Girish Wankhede, the representative of a multiplex, feels the pitch to market the movies to the public seemed to be way off the mark.

"Despite the visibility, they marketing didn't engage the audience, and consequently, a proper perception of the movies couldn't be built up. That's why they registered such low occupancy in the first three days," he sums up.

The situation was not much different for the Hollywood imports like Moneyball, The Artist, Carnage and My Week With Marilyn.

Fortunately for The Artist, the occupancy increased slightly on Sunday, points out Wankhede. And now that the film has won the Oscar for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor, Mehra hopes the film will register decent numbers for the rest of the week.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-12179462533006459262012-02-28T22:18:00.002-08:002012-02-28T22:18:25.728-08:00John Abraham in an LTTE Film 'Jaffna'

Mumbai: Just when one thought John Abraham has left behind his experimental phase of 'No Smoking' and 'Kabul Express', the actor has agreed to work in 'Jaffna', a political thriller about LTTE's activities in Sri Lanka.

The film will be directed by Shoojit Sircar, who has just wrapped up the shooting of 'Vicky Donor', which is his breezy satire on sperm donation, featuring veejay Ayushmaan in the lead. And John has co-produced the film.

"John is a politically aware actor. He reads the newspaper every morning, knows what's going on in the world. He is clued in to the dynamics of the separatist strife in Sri Lanka. The minute I told him about my film 'Jaffna', he was on board," said Sircar.

John will produce 'Jaffna' as well.

Not willing to divulge too many details at the moment, Sircar says it's a political thriller set in the troubled violence-ridden city of Jaffna.

John would be in and out of Sri Lanka in the coming months to get a hang of the political situation in the pretty little country.

"I am no stranger to themes of separatism and extremist violence. My first film 'Yahaan' was about Kashmiri separatism. And now 'Jaffna' would be carrying the theme of extremism to another extreme," said Sircar.

Mani Ratnam's Tamil film 'Kannathil Muttumital' with R. Madhavan in the lead is one of the notable films on the LTTE.

"But that was a love story set against the LTTE backdrop. My film is a political thriller," asserts Sircar.

Though not willing to divulge too many details on John's character, the director hinted that the actor would require a great deal of preparation for his part.

"John believes in 'Jaffna', as much as he believes in 'Vicky Donor'. That's why he stepped in to produce both the projects. He saw the full film 'Vicky Donor' and was completely kicked by it. He thinks Ayushmaan is a star in the making. I can't deny Ayushmaan has given an absolutely natural performance."adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-59674181786047927052012-02-24T22:24:00.003-08:002012-02-24T22:24:42.540-08:00I am still not a dancer, says Vidya Balan

New Delhi: If the success of 'The Dirty Picture' has revealed the 'sensual' side of Vidya Balan, it has also left her superstitious about the colour red. That's one reason she insisted on a red sari for her item number in 'Ferrari Ki Sawari'.

The 33-year-old, who became a rage after portraying the bold and beautiful Silk in 'The Dirty Picture', will be seen in a Lavani item number 'Mala jau dya na ghari' in Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions' 'Ferrari Ki Sawari'.

According to sources, Vidya insisted on being featured in a red sari instead of the traditional green attire for the Lavani number.

Confirming the news, director Rajesh Mapuskar said: " 'The Dirty Picture' was such a huge hit that she feels that red is her lucky colour. The result is looking fantastic."

Vidya, who sizzled in a red hot sari in the first teaser of 'The Dirty Picture', feels people were unable to picture her sensual side, and so she was never offered an item number before.

"I don't think anyone could believe that I could be so sensual. I am still not a dancer. But I have begun to enjoy dancing more so," she said.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-57152291400650197352012-02-24T22:23:00.000-08:002012-02-24T22:23:09.858-08:00I need to respect my body | Bipasha Basu

Mumbai: 'Jodi Breakers' has a song 'Bipasha' composed by Salim-Sulaiman, but actress Bipasha Basu had apprehensions before lending her name to the number.

"It's a song and it's a dance number where I have performed. I had apprehension before performing it but (director) Ashwini Chaudhary insisted that I should listen to the song. The composition by Salim-Sulaiman was excellent. I made everyone hear it - friends and family and they said they liked the song and that it will go waste if you don't perform in it," Bipasha told IANS.

"I have been very protective about my name. I don't even lend it to a character... This is the film I am really attached to. So for a nice film I didn't mind lending my name," she added.

'Jodi Breakers', which has released Friday, sees Bipasha romancing Madhavan.

Bipasha, who came out with a fitness DVD sometime back, says being fit is an added bonus.

"I believe I need to be healthy, I need to respect my body. I always preach and push people to love themselves and look good," she said adding that stress is taking a toll on people in their 30s.

"Stress related diseases are everywhere and the age group has come down to 30... it's not far when it will reach the 20s. I always believe when you look after yourself, the added bonus is that you look good," the 33-year-old said.

But at the same time, Bipasha eats well and added: "I am a big eater but I eat healthy. But I work out a lot. I am very blessed that I love to workout. When I go to the gym, I have the biggest smile on my face and people are jealous of me. Everybody is like, 'What is this? Whenever you come here you look so happy.' People think I am very motivational."adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-64899974185811244282012-02-23T22:38:00.000-08:002012-02-23T22:38:01.649-08:00Amitabh Bachchan discharged from hospital

Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was tonight discharged from hospital after a 12-day stay post his abdominal surgery. Bachchan, who has a history of stomach ailments, was operated on February 11 at the Seven Hills Hospital.

"The actor is doing much better now following which he has been discharged," a hospital source said.

Last night, Big B had tweeted, "Freedom !!! free from central line, free from all kites, free to sleep without precaution... Now await to be free from hospital!!."

After years of trying to jazz up the Academy Awards with flashy, hip hosts, emcee Billy Crystal is returning for a ninth time in 2012, bringing what Oscar watchers say is a level of predictability and comfort to the show.

Frontrunner films -- silent romance The Artist, civil rights story The Help and drama The Descendants among them -- bring familiarity, comedy, love, humanity and a triumph of spirit that contrasts to recent years of darker, best film winners such as The Hurt Locker or No Country for Old Men.

This year could even see some history-making events in acting categories.

It seems Oscar voters took a lesson from last year's winner, feel-good film The King's Speech, or maybe from audiences who at box offices have favored escapist fare like Avatar over tales of woe and war amid the gloomy economy and world conflict.

Whatever the reason, voters at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences appear in sync with movie fans' appetite for entertainment, and there is no one better suited to celebrate Hollywood than Crystal, the 63-year-old comic and star of 1980s and 1990s films like When Harry Met Sally and City Slickers.

"Billy is the emcee version of comfort food, tasty and familiar, but not very spicy" said Entertainment Weekly movie writer Dave Karger.

Exactly what Crystal has in store on Oscar night is still anybody's guess. The producers and host are notoriously tight-lipped. But it's likely Crystal will start as he has in past years, comically editing himself into a video reel of scenes from major movies.

Co-producer Don Mischer gave one interview and was asked to compare Crystal to Ricky Gervais, the acerbic comedian who hosted the Golden Globes. Mischer said "Ricky is entertaining and all that, but I don't think the Oscars is a place for being mean-spirited, or taking real brutal shots at people."

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the races.

Artist vs Help

Silent film The Artist, which is set in the period when Hollywood was moving into the talkies and tells of a fading star who finds redemption through love, heads into Sunday night as the clear frontrunner for the top prize, best film.

It has 10 nominations, overall, second only to 11 for Martin Scorsese's Hugo, the tale of a lost boy trying to find his way home that also is an homage to the early days of filmmaking.

But many nominations for Hugo are in technical categories like editing, opposed to major awards such as actors. The Artist, by contrast, has nods in top categories out of the 24 possible awards, including best actor for Jean Dujardin, supporting actress for Berenice Bejo and directing and writing for Michel Hazanavicius.

"It's fun, it's emotional, it's about the industry, and the artist, and all those things appeal to people," said David Poland, veteran Oscar watcher and founder of MovieCityNews.com. "This is the movie that made people feel good."

If Artist is the film to beat, The Help, a tale of black maids working for white southern families in the 1960s, is the movie to do it. It wooed academy members with a tale that ultimately is triumphant, and it has two frontrunners for acting Oscars. Actors are the biggest group of academy voters.

Help star Viola Davis, who plays a maid, is locked in a close battle with Meryl Streep as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. Davis won at the Screen Actors Guild Awards this year, and that has her tipped for Oscar victory over Streep, a two-time past winner and 17-time nominee.

"In a tight race, the academy goes to the performance that moved them more," Karger said. "Yes Meryl put in a great performance, but it's Viola Davis who has the emotional pull."

Michelle Williams has an outside chance with her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, but most pundits see her fading fast. The other nominees are newcomer Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Glenn Close in little-seen, gender-bending Albert Nobbs.

The other big boost for Help is in the supporting actress category where Octavia Spencer is widely expected to win over Artist star Berenice Bejo. If both Spencer and Davis take home the gold for The Help, it will be the first time in Oscar history two African American women in the same film have won.

Actors and Directors

Among actors, Artist star Jean Dujardin has been claiming most of the movie trophies this year for his performance as the film's lovable, fading star who turns his life around.

His stiffest competition comes from Mr. Hollywood, George Clooney, as a father trying to keep his family together at a time of crisis in The Descendants and from Brad Pitt as a math-minded baseball executive in Moneyball.

But as well-liked as Clooney is, Descendants has not worked the magic with the academy that Artist has, experts say, and Moneyball just isn't a real contender. Other best actor nominees are Gary Oldman in British drama Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Demian Bichir in little seen A Better Life.

Supporting actor is the night's other shot at Oscar history. If Christopher Plummer, 82, or Max Von Sydow, 82, bring home the gold, either one will be the oldest Academy Award winner ever.

Finally, there is a close race in the director category where Hugo maker Scorsese and Artist dreamer Hazanavicius square off against Descendants helmsman Alexander Payne. Hazanavicius has the upper hand, having won the award from the Directors Guild of America earlier this year, but Scorsese is a perennial favorite and Payne is no slouch.

For clues to a winner, experts say, tune into early categories and if Artist begins to claim victory in technical areas like costume design or cinematography, it could portend a clean sweep for the silent film. If not, the race for best movie will remain up in the air until the final envelope is opened.

In 2006, gay romance Brokeback Mountain won early awards for writing, directing and music, but lost in acting categories and finally succumbed to race drama Crash for best film.

"It could be an interesting year," said Poland. "The other thing is, it could be exactly what everybody is expecting."adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-81132378527673463872012-02-23T22:33:00.002-08:002012-02-23T22:33:51.112-08:00Bollywood stays quiet over Saif-Sharma brawl

Mumbai: Two days after Saif Ali Khan's brawl with an NRI businessman, Bollywood celebrities chose to keep their opinions on the incident to themselves. Only composer Vishal Dadlani and jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali came out in support of the star.

"Let me put it this way. IF Saif was provoked or hit first, I think he did what many of us would do. By 'us', I mean myself and you guys," Dadlani of Vishal-Shekhar duo, posted on Twitter.

"Not condoning or defending violence, but everyone's allowed to be human once in a while, no? I think every right-thinking person should ask this question," he added.

Saif found himself in the midst of controversy Wednesday, when Iqbal Sharma, an Indian-origin businessman from South Africa, filed a police complaint against the actor for allegedly assaulting him at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Colaba here.

Saif and two of his friends -- Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, were arrested Wednesday evening, and were later given bail. Saif too filed a case against Sharma, claiming that the latter abused his friends, and assaulted him.

Farah Khan Ali says 44-year-old Sharma's claim that Saif started the brawl is unbelievable.

"In the Saif-Sharma scuffle, the part I find fishy is where Sharma states Saif told him 'Do you know who I am.' Very unlike Saif," said Ali, daughter of veteran actor Sanjay Khan.

She says Saif is just being pinpointed due to his celebrity status.

"Celebrities are often targeted when they are out in public and usually in the company of their woman. Have been witness to one such incident years ago.

"There is something amiss in ths incident and I'm sure the facts will come out soon. It's very unlike Saif to hit an elderly man or provoke a fight," she added.

Saif was recently named the 10th Nawab of Pataudi.

Usually Bollywood is quick to react, but most of the film fraternity members chose to stay away from reacting to the controversy.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-56883341568660225912012-02-21T22:03:00.002-08:002012-02-21T22:03:24.110-08:00Mehrunnisa | It's Rishi Kapoor vs Amitabh Bachchan

London: Bollywood veterans Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, who gave the hit film 'Amar Akbar Anthony' along with Vinod Khanna, are coming together in the forthcoming film 'Mehrunnisa'.

"We were to shoot for the film in April but because of Amitabh's health condition the shooting has been put off to October," Rishi said here last evening without divulging details of the film. Bachchan is currently recuperating in a Mumbai hospital post his abdominal surgery.

Rishi, 59, who was here to launch the 'India Week' at the London School of Economics and deliver his thoughts on the Indian film industry, said, "Hopefully we will have a new film under the R K banner as well."

"We, the Kapoor family, have been part of Indian Cinema for about 180 years. I am very proud that the Kapoors have been working in the films for four generations." Rachel Dwyer, Professor of Bollywood Cinema at the SOAS who discussed 'The Changing Landscape of Bollywood' with Rishi, said, "Bollywood is one of the few rivals to Hollywood and it is growing bigger and bigger."

Answering questions, Rishi said he was selected for the hit-film 'Bobby' by default. After 'Mera Naam Joker' failed at the box office, Raj Kapoor wanted to make a love story sans big stars and "that is why I was selected", he said.

"I owe my career to music directors of the era," he said.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-26973908502541126042012-02-21T22:01:00.004-08:002012-02-21T22:01:53.761-08:00Vidya wants to play Indira Gandhi on screen

Mumbai: Starting off as a simple girl in 'Parineeta' to being a seductress in 'The Dirty Picture', actress Vidya Balan has portrayed diverse roles. She now wants to do something on the strong subject of extramarital affair.

"I want to do something where there is lots of drama as our lives are dramatic. May be do an 'Arth' or 'Silsila' kind of film, something on extra marital affair as wherever we go we get to hear about it," Vidya said.

'Arth', a 1982 film directed by Mahesh Bhatt, starring Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Smita Patil and Raj Kiran, was about his extramarital relationship.

Even Yash Chopra's 1981 film, 'Silsila' featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Sanjeev Kumar and Rekha, revolved around the same topic.

Vidya even showed her interest in doing a film that would centre upon late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. "I may like to do a biopic on Indira Gandhi or something
like that," Vidya said.

However, she has now signed on a comic thriller 'Ghanchakkar', something that she has not tried her luck in yet, opposite Emraan Hashmi.

"Comedy is something I would like to explore. And speaking of other genres like action, its something I am not interested in," she said.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-8683830267398622522012-02-20T22:26:00.003-08:002012-02-20T22:26:50.628-08:00Agent Vinod has potential to cross 100 crores | Saif Ali Khan

London: Saif Ali Khan, who has produced the upcoming spy thriller 'Agent Vinod' alongwith Dinesh Vijan, says the film has the potential to cross the 100 crore mark.

"The film will be released both in multiplexes and single screens and it has the potential to cross Rs 100 crore in revenue and I look forward to it," Saif, who was here to promote the film, told PTI. Produced at a cost of Rs 60 crores, the film was completed in 19 months. It will be released in 3,500 screens globally including 2,500 in India on March 23.

Saif, 41, who also plays the lead role in the film, said "it will give value for money," adding, "The film has been produced keeping Indian sensitives in mind."

Dinesh said, "It is a fun movie with a very Indian hero. The film has been shot keeping Indian sensibilities in mind. It is a realistic film but larger than life." Describing it as a fast-paced film, Dinesh said the film was shot in 12 countries including Riga, Latvia, Morocco, Russia, Uzbekistan, UK and India.

Saif, known for his roles in the cult movie 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Parineeta' and 'Omkara', said he had gone to Vietnam for a couple of weeks to undergo training in action for the film.

He said he did all the stunts himself. "In India we do the stunts and we have good technicians in India. What we need is good writers." Saif described his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, the heroine of the film as a "phenomenal actor. She is just made for the film."

The film is written and directed by Sriram Raghavan. Pritam Chakraborty has provided music for the film which will be distributed by Illuminati Films owned by Saif and Eros Entertainment.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-38815581209423159182012-02-20T22:24:00.001-08:002012-02-20T22:24:57.818-08:00Jodis that don't work in Bollywood

New Delhi: Almost all the Bollywood producers claim to have the knack of recognising the 'real' talent but quite often they make fatal mistakes in casting non-compatible actors opposite each other. Here are the most awkward on-screen pairs which do not bring out the chemistry between the romantic leads.

1. Tusshar Kapoor-Esha Deol: Who would have thought that Esha Deol will end up in becoming a second grade heroine after she achieved Filmfare Best Debut award for 'Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche'. She has been paired against Tusshar Kapoor in many films including 'Kya Dil Ne Kaha', 'Kuch Toh Hai', 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne', and 'One, Two, Three' but the pair never clicked at the box office.

2. Shahid Kapoor-Vidya Balan: It's not been a long time when Vidya Balan used to be criticised for her weird dressing sense, and Shahid Kapoor's identity was of Kareena Kapoor's boyfriend. Both were paired rather pitched against each other in 'Kismat Konnection'. They never looked like hero-heroine, in fact their on-screen chemistry was more of a preacher-student than fellow actors.

3. Bipasha Basu-Ajay Devgn: Just imagine Bipasha Basu struggling to speak Hindi in a regional dialect, that too with a serious actor like Ajay Devgn. Yes, we are talking about Prakash Jha's film 'Apaharan', where she had played a medical student from Bihar. Not many could relate to Bipasha’s character despite 'Apharan' being a box office success.

4. Sanjay Dutt-Kajol: Tanuja Chandra's 'Dushman' received accolades from critics but the lead pair didn't appear great on the screen. The age difference between the two was quite apparent in each and every scene.

5. Bobby Deol-Any heroine: Recall Bobby's films from 'Barsaat' and 'Gupt' to 'Yamala Pagla Deewana' and 'Thank You', they either work due to Bobby or the heroine or due to some other factor, but never because of the chemistry between Bobby Deol and his heroine. However, the Punjabi lad has enjoyed the company of some of the most beautiful women of the Hindi film industry.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-68266644560674432372012-02-20T22:22:00.004-08:002012-02-20T22:22:56.819-08:00Why didn't Imtiaz replace Nargis with Aditi Rao in 'Rockstar'?

New Delhi: When Aditi Rao Hydari, the heroine of 'London, Paris, New York', says that the Hindi film industry is image driven, it should be taken seriously, simply because the actress has risen to the stature of the lead heroine from a very small role in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Delhi 6'.

Actually, it was Aditi's character in Sudhir Mishra's 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' that changed the world for her. She was noticed by the critics as well as the viewers. However, that didn't stop Imtiaz Ali from making a mistake by casting Aditi Rao in a journalist's role while she could have done justice to Nargis Fakhri's role. Nargis not only proved to be a damp squib but she was also highly responsible for the film's relatively bad box office performance.

Now, she is all set to play a modern girl in Anu Menon's 'London, Paris, New York' but this chance has come after a long gap. The trained Bharatnatyam dancer and the grand niece of former Governor of Assam, has graduated from miniscule blink and miss roles to a proper lead role after a good struggle. Rao's lineage probably didn't assist her much in her endeavour.

This time, she will be helped by Ali Zafar who has given two back to back hits in 'Tere Bin Laden' and 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan'. The songs of the film are slowly catching up and the lead actors look confident about the film's performance so this film can actually open a floodgate of opportunities for Aditi.

Seeing her performance in whatsoever limited number of chances she has got so far, Aditi seems to be staying long in the industry. It's probably the high time when established directors should start thinking of her in the major roles.adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08342196440397194168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553893163504904085.post-2452101094294721872012-02-19T22:26:00.000-08:002012-02-19T22:26:14.723-08:00Aamir Khan too busy to spend time with his wife

Mumbai: Aamir Khan has been really tied up in the last few weeks. Bipasha Basu gets jitters to kiss on-screen

Bipasha Basu gets the jitters when it comes to doing a kissing scene on screen. The actress is apparently scared of locking lips with anyone and is uncomfortable doing the scene. Strange for a bindaas babe to get so unnerved by a smooch?
Amrita Puri catches a thief red-handed!

During the shooting of Blood Money in Cape Town, actress Amrita Puri caught a hotel housekeeper red-handed, stealing from her purse. Obviously the actress and the rest of the crew were shocked and moved out of the hotel immediately. This took an entire day, causing losses to the crew.
'We have not issued any cheque to Juhi Chawla'

Producer Rajiv Gupta of Narmada Films has stated that they do not owe the actress any money. Juhi had shot for his public service campaign, Beti Bachao Abhiyaan (Save The Girl Child), initiated by government of Madhya Pradesh.

He says, "We have not issued any cheque so the question of its bouncing doesn't arise." The actress had asked for a nominal fee with the payee name to be left blank. Juhi wanted to directly hand it over to an NGO she supports.

However, the cheque, which she later handed over to the Asian Cancer Foundation bounced.
We managed to get a copy of the cheque (No 005051, drawn on ICICI Bank, Four Bungalows, Andheri West branch) and found that the account is held by Dhansukh Jaini who was the line producer for the campaign in Mumbai, and not by Gupta's production house as reported.
Celina Jaitly who is part of the upcoming film Will You Marry Me is pretty emotional about the film.
