Why didn't Imtiaz replace Nargis with Aditi Rao in 'Rockstar'?

New Delhi: When Aditi Rao Hydari, the heroine of 'London, Paris, New York', says that the Hindi film industry is image driven, it should be taken seriously, simply because the actress has risen to the stature of the lead heroine from a very small role in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Delhi 6'.

Actually, it was Aditi's character in Sudhir Mishra's 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' that changed the world for her. She was noticed by the critics as well as the viewers. However, that didn't stop Imtiaz Ali from making a mistake by casting Aditi Rao in a journalist's role while she could have done justice to Nargis Fakhri's role. Nargis not only proved to be a damp squib but she was also highly responsible for the film's relatively bad box office performance.

Now, she is all set to play a modern girl in Anu Menon's 'London, Paris, New York' but this chance has come after a long gap. The trained Bharatnatyam dancer and the grand niece of former Governor of Assam, has graduated from miniscule blink and miss roles to a proper lead role after a good struggle. Rao's lineage probably didn't assist her much in her endeavour.

This time, she will be helped by Ali Zafar who has given two back to back hits in 'Tere Bin Laden' and 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan'. The songs of the film are slowly catching up and the lead actors look confident about the film's performance so this film can actually open a floodgate of opportunities for Aditi.

Seeing her performance in whatsoever limited number of chances she has got so far, Aditi seems to be staying long in the industry. It's probably the high time when established directors should start thinking of her in the major roles.
